The FM service of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation was established on November 3rd 1989 as the first FM channel in Sri Lanka, reviving the minds of people of Sri Lanka and turning a new page in the history of Sri Lanka radio.
The City FM channel ,which was started under the guidance of the then chairman Hudson Samarasinghe ,was initially started as a linguistic channel. Distributed 24 hours a day on FM 89.6 and FM 89.8,the channel's religious, cultural, educational, musical, entertainment and timely important, nationally responsible youth channel and audience trust has managed to win prestige.
Not only Sri Lankans in Sri Lanka but also Sri Lankans around the world listen to the City FM channel on www.slbc.lk and through the slbc app because of its quality.
Initially,Chandana Tilakaratne, Sujeewa Harischandra, Mayuri Abeysinghe, Punya Kumari Lokuliyana, Swarna Gunawardena, Ashoka Karunanayake, Ajith Indrajee Wijesena, interesting people from City FM channel like Arun Dias Bandaranayaka, Richard De Zoysa the light received is not trivial.
Our channel, which quickly became popular among Sri Lankan listeners, is now moving forward with a series of highly successful programmes covering Sri Lanka on FM 89.6 and 89.8. We are the current inheritors of a series of meaningful programmes with different tastes including Aradhana Swara Dehena, Lassana Udesana, Dasadesin 7, U Turn, Sawasa Wenasa, Hadakara Handawa, Shanida karaliya, Cinema City, Melody of Rhythm, Job City, Poya Day programmes.
